About Me

Hi, I’m Kate!

Before I decided to make proofreading and copyediting my full-time job, I worked as a policy advisor for the UK Government, advising Ministers on European and constitutional policy for almost a decade. This involved:

a) complex legal and policy issues;
b) documents relating to those complex issues, which were often written by people for whom English was a second (or even third!) language; and
c) writing and editing straightforward advice on a) and b) for UK Ministers.

All of this taught me some valuable lessons about the power of text, and the importance of getting it right.

Most importantly, I learned that well-written text builds trust with your audience – whether it’s your customers or fiction readership – by reassuring them that time and care has been put into what they’re reading. And that you’ll put that same time and care into everything else that you do.

My areas of expertise include:

  • UK Government and Westminster politics
  • European Union and wider international relations (including Brexit)
  • UK and EU Justice and Home Affairs
  • UK and EU legislative procedure
  • Policy-making and influencing

I am also a huge fan of sci-fi / fantasy / graphic novels / games / all things geek. When I’m not editing, you can find me reading, writing, watching something new on Netflix or playing on my PS4.
