Proofreading for board games and TTRPGs
What is proofreading?
Proofreading is the very last round of editing before publication – a final quality-control check once all the elements of your game have been finalised.
It’s going over your game with a fine-toothed comb, finding any lingering typos, mistakes in the layout, or formatting problems. It should take place at the very end of the process, when your text, graphics, and artwork are all in place.
What’s included in this service?
A detailed letter-by-letter check of your game and any components addressing the following:
- Spelling
- Punctuation
- Grammar
- Formatting
- Layout
- Continuity
- Rulebooks, boards, cards, tokens – I’ll check over everything included in your game.
I’ll work on a PDF of the game and any components, using the commenting tools in Adobe Acrobat to highlight any problems and make suggested to address them.
I’ll also include a style sheet, recording key style decisions (“OK” vs “okay” etc.). This style sheet is especially useful if your game is part of a planned series as it can be used to ensure consistency in all of the future games too!
What does a proofread game look like?
See below a simple example of a PDF game board with the types of corrections and comments I might make during a proofread.
You may need to hover over the corrections and highlights to read my comments. You can also download the PDF using the link below it.

TESTIMONIAL
“Kate did a wonderful job with editing and proofreading the rules for our board game. We are impressed by her attention to detail and how she managed to bring the rules across in a precise, yet an easily understandable way. She also provided us with her own invaluable thoughts and ideas, which we greatly appreciate. We are looking forward to working with her again in the near future!“
