Proofreading is the very last round of editing before publication – a final quality-control check once all the text has been finalised.

It’s going over all of the text for your game with a fine-toothed comb, finding any lingering typos or potential formatting problems. It can take place at any point after the content of the text is finalised.

This is a detailed letter-by-letter check of the text in your game, addressing the following:

• Spelling
• Punctuation
• Grammar
• Formatting
• Consistency
• Continuity

I’m happy to work in Excel, making sure my changes and corrections are clearly signposted and explained, where necessary. I can also work with track changes and comments in Word, if that’s your preference.

I’ll work to your organisation’s house style or help you to create one by including a style sheet, detailing style decisions on punctuation, hyphenation, capitalisation, spelling choices, etc., and information about the dictionary and style guide followed. This style sheet is especially useful if your game is part of a planned series or shared universe as it can be used to ensure consistency with all of the related material too!
